<- works for me, although perhaps +> or something equally bizarre 
like that, since it's a "hanging indent".  Maybe _>, since only the 
second and subsequent lines are indented.

Would <--, <---, etc. increase the overall identation of the lines?

Perhaps what we really want is -<, --<, ---<?  That looks kinda nice.

Or, just put an 'O' in front and we can play "Hangman":   O-+-<
