I did not check it yet, but I just once again noticed that creating a
<pre>-section using a space in front of the lines also displays this
"markup space".

Shouldn't it be removed just as the other markup sequences?

This was discussed already in a similar way for a structure like
 [=
foobar
barfoo
boofar
=]

Where there always is a blank line (like above) or a space in front of
the first line.
