wow, that's weird.
funny the world of cross-browser compatibility
all the styling works fine in firefox, but only the font-weight of  
bold works in safari (and i don't have the others to check).
anyhow, thanks for tips Radu and Hans. it's much appreciated.  i'll  
keep testing and see if this is even something worth trying to  
implement.
