You might try the MimeTeX recipe, at
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/MimeTeX .  It uses a somewhat
different package for formatting the equations, although the way
the equations are written is the same (and it doesn't require a
complete TeX installation on the machine).
