[pmwiki-users] Restricting Downloading Files . . .

Earlier, I was going to post this as a question, but then I thought
I'd give it a shot first. So, rather than a question, just a pointer.

If you want to restrict downloading without restricting access to the page:

1. $HandleAuth['download'] = 'edit';
2. $EnableDirectDownloads = 0;

I'm sure this is obvious to most, but I found it a rather pleasant
solution--then turned around and password protected the pages anyway!
:-)

For those curious to know what I was doing. One approach to studying
that law students use is outlining. I'd never thought of using an
outline like this before, but there are outlines that are upward of
150 pages. Mine tend to be around 20-50 pages. Anyway, one thing that
tends to happen is previous outlines from earlier semesters get passed
down. There are even outlines that follow the professor's "script" so
closely that you know how to answer her hypotheticals. (I'm serious. I
missed a class and in the next class waited until she started asking
hypos, then CTRL+F to find the hypo.) Although, in order to have
outlines like this, you have to ensure the professor's don't know
what's out there. Even if they do, there still may need to be a
wink-and-a-nod.

So, an organization I support at school has dozens of such outlines
that they want to make available to students. While it would be nice
to allow the students to browse then login to get an outline, we have
them log in.
