It can't on its own.
Dunno about extensions - I don't use any of them (yet).

Well, some people are stuck with that due to external factors (read: 
management).

So it's not that easy to off-handedly dismiss programs like Outlook 
(though I'd dearly love to myself).

I'm not on KDE, so KMail isn't an option for me.
