[pmwiki-users] Markup expression for substring delimited by string

I am looking for a markup expression
<http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/MarkupExpressions> which will return a
substring starting from the left up until, say, the first punctuation mark.

This would be a usefule enhancement to PmWiki
