Mainly because I would like to be able and manually switch to the
mobile version of a page no matter the device I am using. And back.
Another answer to the same question could be: because I do not really
know what else to do. Have you ever seen a blind man walking without a
stick?
Patrick suggested to adopt something like ?skin=mobile or ?setskin=mobile
But I do not know how to trigger/define those things.

Yes, that is probably the right way.
I've read, though, that real support for the media='handheld' in
today's devices is surprisingly wanting. Many people witness this, all
over the internet.
Maybe both things (?setskin=mobile and media='handheld') can work together...?
