I presume you're under version control and have a test environment, so 
why not quickly create a branch and try the conversion? It shouldn't 
take long, and you can take notes for future migrations. I'm with Anno 
on this; that v2.2 is a much better beast than the now quite old v2.1 
series.

If you're hacking v2.1, then I suggest that testing a migration to v2.2 
will be time better spent.

On a personal note, I'd really like to see Patrick declare a version of 
v2.2 stable.
