no, it works fine if you set $DefaultName.

Yes, I would like this in the core too, as a list= option.
Not sure about the name:
list=homes is not too clear, but close.
list=group : I would imagine it to refer to one group, rather than
             group default pages.
list=groupdefaults : perhaps, or
list=grouphomes ???
