OK, so I looked at the code and compared the differences between
Cookbook:TotalCounter 1.5.to and the newer Cookbook:TotalCounter 1.8a. I
found the file names for amassing the totals and its lock file names
where changed:
From: v1.5 $file = .total.counter
v1.5 $lock = .total.counter.lock
From: v1.8a $file = totalcounter.stat
v1.8a $lock = totalcounter.lock
The recipe page says in red lettering: "Bug of deleted statistics is
fixed!". This may have been because of locking or some other enhancement
that was added. There is no mention on how to migrate from a prior
version to 1.8a. I did not see the php script document this file name
change. Well at least I did not find it.
I found that if you either rename the old files to the new names or
change the code to point to these two old files all works and counts are
maintained between these particular versions. Not sure if that should be
mentioned on the recipe page but that is what I found out about my
migration problem. I am not using the 'GEOIP' option.
