I'm using Opera's Java browser for cell phones. It is noticeably faster
than the built in browser in my Ericsson K700i (which is a rather ordinary
phone, nothing special).
Anyway, I can really recommend Opera's Java browser which is free - I've
used it to browse pages on pmwiki.org, and even edit them (it's still a
PITA to enter text though).

PS. I think what they do is send the pages through a Opera server that
transforms the page to look good in your cell phone. This reduces download
times substantially since figures are smaller etc. I haven't investigated
this in detail though.
