Along these same lines I can imagine a system that allows a commenter to
edit their comments, but no one else can. It would do this by inserting
the actual comment (suitably delimited) to a Profile.UserName-Comments
page, which would be editable only by that user. It would also insert a
non-editable include directive into the page (or its associated comments
page) that the user is commenting on.

Of course, this scheme wouldn't quite work for anonymous comments, but
there are things one could do (like not letting anon commenters edit
their comments).
