I've been finding that single-minded rating systems unsuitable for me. I 
never know whether the rating reflects popularity or general quality 
(and i'm pretty sure most voters don't know either, which further 
reduces the usefulness of the rating).

Of course, rating should be as simple as possible. Nobody is going to 
vote on five separate issues for a recipe.

Hence I propose that the rating area should look roughly like this:

How do you rate the overall quality of this recipe?
[1] Excellent ... [5] Abysmal

Current rating results:
1: 32  2: 54  3: 11  4: 3  5: 0
-----------------------------------------------------------

Rating can't get much simpler than that :-)

For the results, I wouldn't get more fancy than that. People do 
relatively well on raw numbers, and tend to misinterpret percentages and 
averages.
