This is something that I wanted also.  I use pmwiki as
a photo gallery (as well as a wiki) and what I found
is that if I associated each photo with a page then I
could give them each a description, a title,
categories...  Maybe in your case you could create an
attachment group and refer to all your attachments
from pages in there (even if they are attached to
other groups).  If you need more ideas like this, look
at the Easy Gallery recipe.
