Personally, having just one space affect the formatting is a little
much. Maybe a paragraph should begin with at least four spaces before
getting the pre treatment (kind of like you need four or more dashes
(-----) to make a horizontal line, but not less). That one space can
sometimes be rather elusive, especially when being copied from a word
doc edited by someone who doesn't format things using the word
processors tools (You should see some of the docs I've come across;
mixed tabs and spaces to create uneven columns, multiple tabs to force
the rest of the text onto a new line, never using tab stops to name a
few). Formatting whitespace seems to be pretty difficult for some. And
to think that these people will be editing the wiki I'm configuring.
At least in Word you have the option to show whitespace characters to
sort out the mess.

I guess the point is that such a drastic change in formatting caused
by one errant whitespace character is too easy to miss. If you
required as least four (maybe two would work, but I like four), the
problem would be easy to spot.

Oh, sure you'd have some wondering why they don't get the same results
with three spaces, but then again, the same could be said for dashes
and horizontal rules. I know I've made that mistake before.

Just my $0.02, but maybe its nothing.
