Well, we aren't really *relying* on whitespace for indents here;
there are still other mechanisms available to achieve the same
results (most notably "-->").  I just know that there's a
fairly large pool of authors (myself included) who find that
whitespace is an incredibly natural and elegant mechanism for 
indicating indents, and other markups seem like a kludge.

But all of this can certainly be left as an option to be
enabled by the wiki administrator.
