This is a great improvement, but (:markup:) gets fooled by enclosed "[=" . 
Perhaps the [=..=] parsing beats out the (:markup:) ... (:markupend:) parsing.

I used the new version for the first example on 
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/MarkupTricks, but the second example 
did not work. Rather than clutter up the MarkupTricks page with examples, I 
put them on http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Test/MarkupTricks
