[pmwiki-users] Skins and $[Some Text Here] variables

Heya,

I'm kind of a PHP newbie, but I've been programming for a long time
and writing HTML and JSP for quite a few years.

I'm wondering what the $[Some Text Here] variable syntax means in the
skins.  At first I thought it was a PHPism, but I haven't been able to
find it in any of my regular PHP references.  You can see what I'm
scratching my head over in the sample skin at
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/SkinGuidelines in the
PageFooterFmt

I have a guess that it's an internationalization feature.  That is,
the text between the brackets is used as a key to fetch a value from
the table described at
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/XLPageTemplate .

Is this the case?  Did I win a prize?  :-)
