I've noted the security concern with various browsers.
As for my request, I think I need to clarify. I would like
plain text without the file: prefix to be recognized as a
URL if there are backslashes in it. It seems that would be
a good indicator that a windows user meant it as a URL.
The motivation here is that unfortunately in a windows
environment people constantly send out emails with
references to files on corporate fileservers without
prefixing the URL with file:. I would like it to be easy to
dump these emails into the wiki wihtout modifying the URLS.
