Okay, take a look at 
   http://www.pmwiki.org/pmwiki2/pmwiki.php/Cookbook/HorizontalMenu

This works in both Firefox and IE.  Instead of using id="nav" as
the original article did, I switched it to use class="hmenu".
This also allows multiple horizontal menus within the same page.

This was a fun hack, thanks.  Comments and questions welcome as always.
