Try it again now with IE 6.02 (and others should try it with other
browsers again, please).  I think I was able to come up with a fairly 
robust fix to this problem, at least for the ISO-8859-1 character set.
After looking at the Unicode specs I think it's likely to work for
those also, but time will tell.
