The contents of the (new) template would delete the current content?
I can see the advantage of being able to do this in the beginning as a way
of deciding what template to use. First you select one template to see
what it looks like, and then you choose another and so on.

I didn't mean to force a consistent naming, only allowing it. E.g. if you
wrote:
[[template:PmWikiPhilosophy]]
[[template:*Template]]
the rendered result would be a list of template pages starting with
'PmWikiPhilosophy' followed by any pages matching '*Template'.
