[Pmwiki-users] user authentication

I' like to implement a user-authentication
*User has  groups (or wikis+groups)
*User may access certain groups (or wikis+groups)

At the moment I'm interested, wether it's "easily" possible to change 
the authentification function.  
$user ($authuser)
$ugroups  (from some table)
Match to actual  $group  ( "not allowed" error)
  ---                                 (not showing items, user is not 
allowed to access)

Before  I'm getting deeply into the code,  I'd  like to discuss the 
problem in the mailinglist.
I thought I have read once a discussion about this topic, but I didn't 
find anything.

I think user authentication would be very usefull.
May be other people are also interested.
