Thanks for the info.

$EnableDiag = 1;

is exactly what I needed.  What I'd been doing before was to
search the whole installation for lines with both preg_replace
and /e.  The problem was that several recipes store the flags in
a variable, and so that search fails.

This shows that some useful recipes may not have new versions.
I'm still thinking about what to do.
