I just upgraded, transferred and transformed several minimalist v1 and
v2 sites.

Downloaded the latest pmwiki 2.x and installed on my laptop in a
new <newwiki> folder.

FTPed the old site to another folder on the laptop. It took a
while, but oh well. This is a back up in case all else fails, which it
didn't.

Copy the wiki.d and uploads to the newwiki folder.

Download a bucket full of v2 cookbooks and skins, and install
them in the appropriate newwiki folders.

Made adjustments to the new local/config file for new skins and
cookbooks.

Uploaded the newwiki folder to the newwiki site.

Changed file permissions to 777 on wiki.d and uploads folders. I
find it easiest to use my host's file manager for this instead of my
FTP program.

Debugged any additions and changes to local/config and the
transfer and update was done.

If you want to use the oldwiki's URL, make the minor
modifications to the newwiki local/config to get the URLs right for the
old site, then change folder names at your host so the newwiki operates
at the old's site.

Since I'm operating wikis at several host domains, once I got
everything running at the first transfer, I copied the operating
newwiki folder to a seperate pmwiki2x folder on my laptop to use as a
template for my other wiki transfers and/or updates. It turned out I
didn't need the full backup copy of the original oldwiki, but it never
hurts to be safe. For subsequent transfers, I just copied the wiki.d
and uploads files to the newwikiX folders before uploading.

Keep in mind, the v1 and v2 sites I was updating and transfering with
didn't have a lot of custom cookbook stuff that might require lots of
fiddling...
way to do that?
A low-tech solution would be to install the new version on the new site
and manually transfer contents. Very time consuming.

Alternatively would it be best to transfer the wiki and upgrade on the
new site, or upgrade on the old site and then transfer.

Pointers for how to effectuate the transfer would be appreciated. I
imagine it's not as simple as copying and pasting files and folders of
files.
Thanks in advance.
