[pmwiki-users] Recipe ActionLog

I checked one of your wikis and found what appears to be a server-side
configuration issue, rather than a problem with the ActionLog recipe or
with your installation.

The $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] variable, which normally contains the
visitor's IP address, has the same value as $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'],
which contains the server's IP address. In this case, the value also
matches the domain's DNS A record, suggesting that PHP is seeing the
server's public IP address instead of the visitor's actual IP address.

The $_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'] variable does contain the visitor's
IP address. However, this header can be spoofed and should only be
trusted when it is set and validated by a trusted reverse proxy.

This suggests a possible server-side networking or reverse proxy
configuration issue. For example, if a reverse proxy forwards requests
to PHP-FPM without correctly configuring the forwarding headers or the
web server's handling of the original client IP, PHP may see the proxy's
IP address or another server-side address instead of the visitor's IP.

To investigate further, the hosting provider should check the web server
configuration and raw access logs, specifically the original
connection's remote IP address, to determine where the requests are
coming from and how the client IP address is being handled.

Based on these findings, I recommend opening a support ticket with your
hosting provider and asking them to investigate the server's handling of
the original client IP address and correct the configuration if
necessary. This is not something that can normally be fixed within your
wiki installation itself.
