The existence or non-existence of the page in $DefaultName is significant -
it changes the behavior significantly if you haven't adjusted the
$PagePathFmt variable. (Pmwiki searches through the $PagePathFmt array
looking for an existent page and if none is found then it defaults
[regardless of the setting of $DefaultName] to the first element in that
array which starts with '$1.' which happens to result in
Groupname.Groupname.)

I ran tests again and internal links to the group will work using the
per-group config, but editing the URL (thus links coming from outside) will
not work unless you define it in farmconfig.php or config.php.

Thus [[Groupname.]] and [[Groupname/]] work.

Accessing it by http://www.example.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Groupname
doesn't work.
