[pmwiki-users] "Beautiful" urls: how to put "pmwiki.php" out?

Hi.

I'd like to know how to turn an url such as (it does exist):

http://fsblendorio.netsons.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/Teatro/Motel

into something like that:

http://fsblendorio.netsons.org/wiki/Teatro/Motel

I tried doing it by renaming the file "pmwiki.php" into "index.php",
then changing references to it to the correct name (index.php)
I did it because I can't change apache configuration on the server
(which is administered by the provider).

It worked only for the first page:

http://fsblendorio.netsons.org/wiki

...while an URL like http://fsblendorio.netsons.org/wiki/Teatro/Motel
simply does not work.
How to do it? (for example like PM did:
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/Installation)

Thanks in advance
