Actually, you can.  Just takes a little tweaking.  I've done it...just been a 
while.  For example, open up notepad, do a save as, and put a file 
like ".filename" WITH the quotes, and it will use that filename verbatim.

I'm pretty sure you can make directories by using a .name after you 
right-click and do New->folder.
