[pmwiki-users] Thumbnail formatting suggestions

Do you have any good tips or tricks for generating thumbnails of images
whose proportions vary quite a bit?

I have tried wrapping thumbnails inside of separate divs whose height
and width is explicitly set to standard sizes, like this:

 >>lframe width=100px height=100px padding=5px<<
%cfloat thumb%[[{=$FullName}|Attach:{=$FullName}/{=$:Attach}]]%%

That works pretty well, but I still end up with images that spill over
past the lframe. I keep setting the lframe dimensions larger and larger,
but I still end up with occasional images that spill over the frame.

Rather than continuing to increase the ratio between frame and
thumbnail, I think I'd rather find a way to display a partial image
within a set frame. I think I have seen that on websites, but I'm not
sure how to get that result with wikistyles.

An alternative would be if we had a "longest side" option for
thumbnails: "The longest side option uses the longest side of the
image—whether width or height— and the pixel value you enter to
calculate the thumbnail size."
