Have a try:
* Install the recipe (with $EnableUrlSetVar set to 1),
* Edit the Main.SomePage and fill it with {$x} or {$y} things
* Asking for: http://www.foo.org/pmwiki.php?n=Main.SomePage&set_x=3&set_y=5
would set both variables for you...
