Perhaps simplify the Site.AuthUser page ... ? Get rid of all of
the descriptive text and other examples and leave it with just the
group specifications (and possibly a paragraph explaining how
to add the group specifications).
Also, you could put all of the group memberships at the top of the
page, and then have a marker that says "don't edit below here unless
you know what you're doing", as in:
@admin: User2
@editor: User3
==== don't edit below here ====
htpasswd: ....

And put it *where*? I'd be leery of any recipe automatically
modifying the Site.AuthUser page itself.
