Is there a way to use a "negative parenthesis suppression" to get 
something like this:

[[Amanita muscaria var{.} formosa]] be equivalent to 
[[AmanitaMuscariaVarFormosa|Amanita muscaria var. formosa]]

Or better yet: how would I make it to treat the  links like that
[[Amanita muscaria var. formosa]] as 
[[AmanitaMuscariaVarFormosa|Amanita muscaria var. formosa]]
