The Gemini skin provides a very flexible RightBar which I use as a newsbox. 
There are five wiki pages that control the menus:

     * Side Bar -- populates the left sidebar menu
     * Right Bar -- populates the right sidebar menu
     * Page Top Menu -- populates the upper right action menu
     * Page Foot Menu -- populates the lower left action menu
     * Page Footer -- populates the very bottom line

These can be selectively turned off and on within different groups or on 
specific pages.
