I want the best of both worlds. I was calling them "permanent links" but I
don't think that is the best nomencalture. I want to be able to declare a
word and have it rendered as a link whenever it appears. That link might be
to an external entity as in:
Adobe -> http://www.adobe.com/
or the link might point to an internal page, as in
Neil -> Profiles.NeilHerber

I can achieve an internal link with an external reference since I could
declare the link like so:
Neil -> http://www.example.com/pathtomy/pmwiki/Profiles.NeilHerber

I can do this now with InterMap links, but they require trailing characters
behind the "permanent link" word - namely a colon and one non-blank
character. This is acceptable for me, but totally inexplicable to my users
who tend to ask things like "Why does this feel like a 1980s word processor?"
