I got a response from the Firefox forum. Not being able to search in a
textarea is considered a bug (with a considerable amount of serious
flaming going on apparently), but won't be fixed for a while. One of the
developers in bugzilla says it's "on the radar" for Firefox 2.0. There
are no extensions that I have been able to find that are credible.
In the meantime, I tried search in IE 6, and it searches in an edit box
(textarea) just fine. Ugh.
Here's the bug area for Firefox if anyone is interested:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=252371#c123
The moral of the story: use IE for complex wiki postings. Double Ugh.
