I'd just like to emphasize that my suggestion was for using *gmane*, not 
gmail... If you've never heard of it before, just take a look here

and you should see this thread. Gmane gives you access to the list as if
it were a news group, either via the plain old news interface (which I
use), or via a web interface.

PS. Using gmail might be fine, I just don't have any experience with it.
