Yeah, that seems a bit strange, but hey, it seems to work.  Based on this
I'm likely to have PmWiki respond differently when it detects safe_mode
issues; namely, it'll present a message to the administrator requesting
that the wiki.d/ directory be created manually with 777 permissions.
